Aluminum Sulfate, also known as "alum" has a variety of uses. It is used as a flocculant, coagulant, and emulsion breaker in water treatment. It also helps remove turbidity, suspended solids, reduces biochemical oxygen demand, and clarifies potable, process and waste water in watre treatment proceeses. One other popular use of Aluminum Sulfate is in gardening. Aluminum Sulfate is very acidic so it can be added to very alkaline soils to balance the pH for plants. The most common use in gardening is adding Aluminum Sulfate to the soil to change the flower color (blue or pink) of Hydrangeas.
